Formation of YRWA

The Youghiogheny River Watershed Association (YRWA) formed in 2000 to
address environmental issues that impact the watershed. Through a collaboration of
partnerships with local communities, federal, state, and local government agencies as well as with non-profit conservation organizations, they are working toward their goal of watershed-wide restoration. These partnerships identified and initiated acid mine drainage abatement projects, stream bank stabilization and fencing projects, and conducted environmental education in the watershed.

So far, YRWA has secured over $500,000 in grant monies.
Many challenges are still ahead for the YRWA, and the public/private partnership concept is the key to accomplishing long-term watershed restoration goals.
